This time, we got a chance to test the Transcend shock resistance portable drive. Out of the Box the SJM100 is HFS+ pre-formatted and fully supports Time Machine, and it’s plug and play.

This portable drive proved to be a performer even it has a 2.5-inch SATA disk with 5400 rpm drives.
It can do read and write speed at 120MB/s, 105MB/s on a USB 3.0 connection. Small file transfer of 1MB or less is fast on StoreJet 100 it only took a couple of seconds to copy it, while large file transfer 1GB or more got an averaged 100 MB/s reads and 103 MB/s writes speed using USB 3.0 connection, while using USB 2.0 connection is almost fast too. The spinning drive is almost silent when in used, this maybe because of its SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technology and maybe with its body design with silicone rubber outer jacket it tends to mum the sound.
OUR VERDICT For the price of P5,990, at 2TB capacity, the Transcend StoreJet 100 is a bit expensive. But the drive is well made and can withstand accidental drops and protect data which is important in such scenario. The design is nice, while included cable it too short for our liking, why do they always include short USB cable, manufacturer should consider including a standard size cable to that it’s easier to move the drive around. With the support of USB 3.0 for faster data transfer is a nice feature too. Where to buy? Get one at Lazada.
